Area
Show Jumping
Nineteen Burghley members arrived at Flitteris
Park bright and early for the area show jumping competition last Saturday,
which was organised by the Cottesmore pony club this year. All the horses
and riders looked smart and the novice team of Lisa Reid, Zoe Andrew, Amy
McPhail and Alice Turner were placed 5th in the tack and turnout
competition! The second novice team of Jake Webb, George Andew, Bethany
Fitt and Charlie Parkin all went clear in the first round and Charlie jumped
clear again in the second round, going through to the individual jump off.
She was drawn 4th to go so jumped a safe clear which put her into 16th
place, not bad out of 160 riders! The 1st novice team finished with a
respectable score of 16 faults, with Lisa having the unenviable task of
being the first to go. This was a challenge for both rounds as the second
round was jumped over the intermediate course. Our 2 individuals were Katie
Sutcliffe and Catherine Davies.
Special congratulations go to Jess Varley, who
won the individual Intermediate competition and will represent our branch at
the Championships on Monday 17th Aug. Having jumped double clear in the 1st
two rounds she rode a blinder in the jump off to clinch the class. The
intermediate team of Charlotte Adams, Harry Ladds, Stephi Reynolds and Jess
finished the 1st round on a zero score but had to move to the Open course
for their 2nd round. This course had proved tricky for the Open teams and
coursed quite a lot of problems to the intermediates. Emily Henriques and
Suzie Bliss rode as individuals, Suzie was very pleased with her horse as he
stumbled after fence 1 in the 2nd round and lost a shoe, but completed the
course with 8 faults.
The Open team of Rachel Spain, Claudia Kendall
and Emily Lumb were the only team with 3 members instead of 4 which put them
at a big disadvantage.
A huge thank you goes to Nikki Herbert, our team
trainer, who walked all the courses with our riders and helped them in the
warm-up over a very long day.
