Emma and Scrumpy Jack at the Area Intermediate Horse Trials |
|
On Saturday 4th August Emma took me to the Area Intermediate Horse Trials at Flitteris Park, Oakham. We had to 'do' dressage first, 'Yuk.' We were first to go, which was good, nothing for me to be nosy about! I must have been good, I got lots of pats, polos and a score of 39.6%. Mum was really pleased with me. Next was show jumping. A little 'hiccup' in communication at fence 2, a pole on the floor, 'Uh,oh' Mum said. 'never mind', gave me a pat and I made sure I gave the rest of the fences that extra special 'Scrumpy treatment.' ( For those who don't know me that well, that means give them plenty of room!) 'Hey, this is good, more polos!'
Now the fun bit, Cross Country, I like going fast! We were the team trailblazers, you know like Jeanette Brakewell and Over to You (aka Jack), spot the the link .... Jack and Scrumpy Jack..! Apart from not really believing Mum when she said we were going to jump the horrid horseshoe fence and then having to make a real effort from almost a standstill, ' Whoops! Nearly lost Mum there', we had great fun and got to the finish with the only clear round of the Burghley contingient. I know I got some time faults, but those of you that know me will know that although I think I'm a thoroughbred, I am a traditional gypsy pony and not really built for marathon running!
Emma and I would like to say a huge thank you to our Team Trainer and Manager for having faith in us and putting us on the team, we had a great time and do hope that the other members of Burghley team who all had mixed fortunes enjoyed their day as much as we did! ps. Em and I came 10th in our section and in our 'unbiased' opinion it was the toughest section!! From Scrumpy Jack and Emma Harrison
