FIRST AID COURSE - The Branch Needs Help
All our rallies, camps, training etc. need to have a first aider on site. Without these volunteers that give their time freely we would have to pay for a first aider. Unless we are able to get more parents, helpers or anyone interested in supporting the branch to qualify and do the course we will have to look at alternatives. You will all appreciate that if we have to start paying for cover this will have to be reflected in the cost of the rallies etc.
First aid for the Pony club, means that you dedicate the whole time to watching and being vigilant. According to health and safety regs, neither instructors or organisers can be the appointed first aider. As a first aider you are the first point of contact and make the decision as to whether an ambulance is needed or if the child is ok to continue or should be taken to hospital for treatment. The rides are stopped and generally there are other qualified people around to assist should a fall occur. The Pony Club insurance covers our qualified first aiders at Pony Club events.
It was decided at the recent committee meeting that the branch would fund 50% of the course costs. So for a bargain £70.00 you can become a qualified first aider. The course is kindly run by Alex McSorley.
At the moment we have 4 parents/committee members with the certificate. Those who attended the last course gained knowledge and the certificate whilst having fun. The material is explained fully, with lots of practical role play. You will find the completion of the course very fore filling, but the first time you actually use your new first aid skills can be a very uplifting experience, one day you just might save a life. It's a huge confidence giver and you will be able to give something back to the branch. Even with the certificate you will not be on call for every rally but another name that could probably step into the breach when needed.
It is a course that is recognised in the
work place and maybe your employer would fund the other half?
The course consists of 24 contact hours spread over 4 days.
The dates of the next course are -
Monday 13th, 20th,27th October and Monday
3rd November. 9.30am - 3.30 pm though finish times can be slightly flexible to
accommodate school runs.
Places are limited so please sign up a.s.a.p. We need to have a minimum of 6
people to make this course viable.
