Robbie Reid holds the reins with George Dolby as new District Commissioner
and now has his chance for some Fast Talk.

Robbie, you have been involved with the Burghley Pony Club for some time now, what prompted you to take up the difficult challenge of moving to the DC position?

Thought it would be less stressful than mounted games

After many years of this being a female dominated role, what new ideas, assets and talents can two men now bring?

We have many new idea's, how about making the PC more user friendly to Dads? Firstly a plasma screen TV for HRT to enable them to watch rugby, football, cricket & motor sports whilst one eye on son/daughter riding, a cheaper option could be a newspaper rack at entrance gate. A more serious reply is to provide an environment with the help of committee and parents, to allow the branch members get the best tuition we can afford and helping them to achieve their goals, to have fun and develop friendships. As a young Robbie growing up in the Fitzwilliam branch then running my business i have learnt you have to be firm but fair and treat people how you wish to be treated yourself, and have a laugh along the way.

You are team manager for mounted games and well known for the hard work and enthusiasm you have put into this pony club sport. What appeals to you so much about mounted games?

The 4 F's............Fast Fun Friendship and .... frustrating!!!

Did you ride as a child and if so what discipline did you most enjoy (or have most success at!)?

Yes, hunting, cross-country, area tetrathlon, but most enjoyable was chasing the girls at PC camp!

Have you had a particular favourite amongst your four legged equine friends?

All are fav's Tom Thumb who taught me to ride, his speciallity was galloping home flat out,  on a felt saddle!
Eliean Dou full up highland pony, with no steering but safe in every way. Then came UHU the dream racing machine 16.2 thoroughbred point to pointer, with undesirable stable manners, but jumped anything.
And in the present it's got to be Louis, and has given us all good fun.

Your daughter Lisa, now sits firmly in the saddle and has had much success at mounted games, but also in other disciplines. Do you have a particularly proud moment as Dad?

Well sometimes firmly, but lots of moments like first gymkhana with Polly, got to the sack and found I'd lost her going round the top barrel. Doing a clear round on Peanuts, jumping at the area and doing a nice clear in 2nd round after a fall in the 1st. But it has to be the flag race at Louth and getting Bramham Moor on the line for a final.

LISA: Yer im not sure about that firmly bit!!! i think most of the moments that are rememberd are more FUNNY that proud!!

LISA: And what about STAR?? well you have taken to calling her by her nickname WOOZLE!!!<< and lets not forget the old sheepys at the park!!! and of course WOOLEY the ram!!!

You, Lisa and wife Jane are all very heavily involved with horses, what do you do for a change of scenery?

Go home! bit of DIY and house renovation, love Scotland and Isle of  Bute

Lisa: Ok lets just make this clear... just because he has no social life doesn't mean i dont!!!

Horse of the Year or Royal International Horse Show?

Hoys, and PPC finals were dreams come true.

  Picnic or bar-b-que?

Both as long as the beer is cold

Football or rugby?

Rugby everytime!

Summer holiday in the sun or a winter ski holiday?

Winter ski and plenty of 'apres-ski' in Andorra, was well good

Best past experiences

Going round the Annapurna range and up to base camp of Everest, White water rafting from Victoria Falls on Zambezi. Farming in Australia, Saudi Arabia and Zambia, and seeing all the wildlife. Climbing down & up the Grand Canyon in a day.

Riding and when Lisa was born.

  LISA: WHAT'S A HOLIDAY???!!!!!!

Jeans or shorts !!!!

Some of my jeans are well faded with fashionable rips !

LISA: HAHAHAHA nooooo its gotta be the shorts surely... the proof is in the picture!!!!

Best scary experiences

Being surrounded by crocs in a rowing boat in middle of night on Daintree River, Queensland.
Spreading fertilizer from a plane in Tasmania, some serious G forces.
And getting married-
 but don't tell Jane.

  What is your favourite film?

Acopalypse Now, & One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest

Who would you most like to invite to a dinner party?

How about Jeremy Clarkson, Lennie Henry, DJ Johney Walker,  Nigel Peel, along with French & Saunders, Mrs Merton, and  Catherine Tate, with Pink Floyd live, plus my best mates

Wine or beer?

Both get the same result!!!

Mashed, roasted or chipped??

Can put the dodgy spuds in mashed, roasted maybe, so has to be the home-made chip, not those from a cardboard box.

LISA: Well judging by how protective he is over the radio station in the van he would probably invite the whole of radio 2.

Famous names in your life?

Had few beers with Clint Eastwood, met Princess Anne with Save Children in Africa, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, ex president of Zambia on a farm project, escorted David Shepherd and his daughter down Zambezi. Was playing roulette in a casino with bunch of farmers in Western Australia when Mick Jagger parted with a few dollars, and met Jeremy Clarkson in Castor paper shop - does that count?

  Famous labels in your wardrobe?

Levi and anything good out of charity shop, real blokes don't care.

LISA: He keeps his clothes on the floor and on a chair !!!! NO wardrobe!!!

What would be your idea of a perfect Christmas?

Good company, round a blazing log fire, and a top port.

LISA: Well it would be nice to sit round a fire yes ...but seeing as we have been living at 12 Graeme Road for 2 years now i have given up all hope of ever doing that as the downstairs of the house is STILL a construction site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Finally . . . . . star sign???
