Soggy Sissons
On Sunday morning I woke up to find it was raining … heavily! Not
having to be at Sissons until 12.30 I was hoping it would dry up. The morning
just disappeared not helped by the persistent rain. Archie was in the field …
looking very wet … EATING( his favourite pastimeJ
) convinced that the afternoon sessions would be cancelled, I persuaded dad to
ring Rosie Bliss, only to find that they were going ahead and I was going to get
wet L ! We then got a visit form the Adams family
(Charlotte, Sheron and NigelJ ) Happily chatting
away…Oblivious to time (in true Reid style)… Mum suddenly squeaked “****! Its
Five to Twelve!” (it takes us half an hour to get to Sissons!!) Archie was still
in the field … EATING… and much to his disappointment he was hastily grabbed and
bundled into the lorry… Archie: well it wasn’t soooooo bad after all it was a
lot drier in there and they gave me MORE FOOD… BONUS!!
So with the rain still falling the Bedford TK rolled into Sissons … late …
woopsJ . As I was getting legged up onto my 5yr
old bouncy thoroughbred… my ride (Oli, Constance, Beth and Lily) were already
trotting round the arena. Despite the rain and my lateness the flatwork session
went really well for me and Archie. Our instructor was Kate Morley, I had had
her at dressage training earlier in the week and she got Archie and me going
really well. In the training test we did at the end we got two 8s … and a few 0s
…as I learnt the wrong test and mum had to call it for me…….because of the wind
I hadn’t got a clue what she was saying and mostly just trotted round the arena
and cantered at a random letter … a bit like when you pick our lottery numbers …
“lets go for F it might come up!!”
After the flatwork we went to do some Show jumping with Peter Hale. He was great
for Archie and we did some really helpful control and steering exercises. After
we had jumped a selection of jumps from the inter-schools show jumping course,
we put together a course of our own. Archie and me did our course in controlJ
!… Despite an interesting loopy turn into the last jump (water tray)!! Peter was
pleased with everyone and said that it would be a good idea to finish there…
(there were no complaints!!!)… we all looked like drowned rats… Archie: I‘m
not a rat L … ok … we all looked like we had
been swimming rather than at a pony club rally in the middle of May!!
Many thanks to Kate, Peter and Rosie who gave up their time and braved the
weather to give us a fantastic rallyJ
